Welcome back, Lady!

Let's talk. Remember the incredible sense of relief and clarity you feel after deep-cleaning a messy room? Well, you can breathe easier, think clearer, and move without tripping over junk.

Now, ask yourself: When was the last time you did that for your bank account?

If you want to build real wealth, you cannot afford to leak money through neglect. This is the financial version of cleaning out a closet — it creates space for abundance. By doing a monthly "Financial Declutter," you take your power back from mindless spending and redirect your capital toward your ultimate goals.

As Proverbs 27:23 wisely instructs us: "Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds." In today's world, your "flocks and herds" are your accounts, investments, and cash flow. Good stewardship requires intentional, monthly attention.

Here are the four things you need to intentionally remove from your financial life this month:

1. Subscriptions You Don’t Use

We live in a subscription economy designed to make you forget you are paying for it. That $9.99 streaming service, the $25 app you haven't opened since January 2024, the premium software you meant to cancel after the free trial—it all adds up. Comb through your last 30 days of bank and credit card statements. If you haven't used a service in the last month, cancel it immediately. You can always sign back up if you truly miss it.

2. Auto-Renewals

Auto-renewals are the enemy of intentional spending. When you leave your memberships, insurance policies, or software on auto-renew, you forfeit your power to negotiate or shop around for better rates. Most financial institutions will tell you that it is better, but in the last year I have turned off auto-renew on everything I could. It forces you to consciously choose whether a product or service still deserves your hard-earned money each year.

3. Emotional Spending Triggers

Financial decluttering isn't just about spreadsheets; it's about psychology. Look at your discretionary spending from last month.

What did you buy when you were stressed, tired, scrolling Instagram late at night, or trying to keep up with a friend?

Identify your triggers. Once you know that stress at work leads to impulsive online shopping, you can build healthier, free coping mechanisms (like a walk, a workout, or a conversation with a friend) to replace the emotional spending.

4. Old Money Stories

This is the most important clutter to clear.

What lies are you telling yourself about money? "I'm just not good with numbers," "Money is the root of all evil," or "I'll never be able to afford a home."

These old money stories are invisible chains keeping you broke. Throw them out. Replace them with the truth: Wealth is a skill that can be learned, and you are entirely capable of mastering it no matter what the economy looks like.
